ONE Championship: Rodtang opens as a betting favourite over Superlek for Muay Thai title fight
With the match finally rescheduled after huge fan outcry, Online sportsbook Bovada have offered opening odds of -150 for the 26-year-old Rodtang, with Superlek the underdog at +115.
Fans are split on who will get their hands raised, with Rodtang’s popularity giving him the edge – though Thai media have pegged “The Kicking Machine” Superlek, 27, as the favourite.
Former ONE bantamweight Muay Thai title challenger Liam Harrison appeared to be keen to put some money down after seeing the odds – seemingly on Superlek, who is riding an eight-fight win streak, with three consecutive finishes this year.
“[Rodtang has] fought people like Joseph Lasiri and ‘Mini T’ [Danial Williams] from the weight division below,” Harrison told the Post in a recent interview. “He had a tough fight with Mini T, who gave him a hard time. Superlek just blitzed Mini T when they fought.
“If you look who Superlek has been beating. Nabil [Anane] has been fighting the top level in Thailand. Panpayak is one of the greats of this era. Superlek destroyed Walter Goncalves in one round, whereas Walter had a really close title fight with Rodtang.
“I think Superlek beats him – he takes him to school and beats him convincingly.”
Rodtang is undefeated in Muay Thai and kickboxing competition in the Singapore-based ONE, where the only blemish on his record was a loss via second-round rear naked choke in his mixed rules super fight against the MMA superstar Demetrious Johnson in March 2022.
His most recent victory – a second-round TKO of Edgar Tabares in a successful title defence at ONE’s on-ground US debut in Denver in May – scored him a US$100,000 double performance bonus. He has since seen his fight purse rise to 10 million baht – around US$283,000.
